Five
years ago, I was a 325 lb fat,
isolated, and depressed high school
sophomore. In many ways I felt
undesirable and inferior.
Today I am a college junior, 140
pounds lighter and a ton happier!
What changed me?
Well, I learned to imadulate, that
is - I began to listen to a guided
imagery/hypnosis audio CD set
developed by a therapist named Ellen
Chernoff Simon. She taught me to
“modulate my imagination”
(imadulate) or empower myself by
imagining a positive outcome,
thinking positive thoughts and
making better life choices. These
choices would enable me to be the
fit and attractive person that I had
always dreamt that I could be.
Today my commitment to a healthy
lifestyle enhances my confidence,
mental performance and emotional
well-being.
This all started when I was a high
school computer geek who shared a
speech class with Ellen‘s daughter,
Nikki. She told me her mother was
looking for help developing a web
site to promote her newly created
guided imagery CD’s. Ironically,
Ellen was trying to earn money to
feed her five children while I was
trying to stop eating enough for
five people! It was a match made in
heaven. I helped her with computer
matters in exchange for personal
weight loss sessions. I began to
listen to her guided imagery CD’s
several nights before I went to
sleep. Although I didn’t know
anything in particular had happened,
I effortlessly began to make better
choices related to food and eating.
I drank more water than soft drinks
and reduced portions at mealtimes. I
just felt satisfied and fulfilled
with less food. Within a 5-6 month
period I had lost 75 pounds! Instead
of being in love with food, I
essentially began to love myself and
thus realize my dreams of being
slimmer and fitter by making better
decisions. It’s not magic, but it
sure seemed like it!
Of course there were some ups and
downs along the way. Over the next
couple of years, I began to
incorporate the various fad diets of
the day into my new lifestyle with
the usual short term results. By the
time was in college, I had an
average weight loss of 45 pounds
year. I started reading the book
titled “The Ab’s Diet” and found it
valuable because it helped me build
muscle while I continued to lose
fat. Most importantly, it wasn’t
taking a major food group out of
bounds.
Ultimately, I once again began to
utilize the techniques of developing
my own “inner fitness” that Ellen’s
imadulation CD’s had helped me to
realize in high school. Healthy
thoughts, proper breathing, stress
management, exercise and healthy
food choices all coming from within
me. This was the key to keep me on
track strengthening my inner power.
I have truly developed a mind set
over these past years in which I
know I can do and accomplish
anything that I want to; you can
change your life when you change
your mind!
Today I manage a 2500-3000 calorie
diet rich in nutritious foods, jog 4
miles 4 days a week, and workout in
the gym 3 day a week. I am in touch
with my true inner needs and am
committed to the health of my body
mind and spirit and I imadulate
regularly.
At the time of this initial writing
I weighed in at 185 pounds; since
then I have gained at least an
additional 10 pounds of muscle mass
and it feels great. Many unhappy
overweight people out there can
realize, like I did, that they hold
the key to their own success and
that they too can unlock the door to
their dreams by learning to
imadulate with Ellen’s unique guided
imagery CD program.
