Breathing Meditation Helps Veterans With PTSD

Posted by Ellen Simon on 27th Sep 2014

There is new research from Emma Seppala, Ph.D., associate director of Stanford University’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education about how meditation and breathing exercises help veterans recover from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Slow deep breathing, especially Yogic breathing, calms the sympathetic nervous system and can help reprocess and integrate traumatic memories as well as help relax the muscles and support present moment awareness.
