2. What is Guided Imagery?
Guided imagery (aka guided visualization) is a method of
mind/body techniques that teach the use of your imagination to
help you enhance your life. The term "imagery" refers to the
pictures and sensory images that make up your thoughts,
memories, and ideas. Guided imagery is based on the notion
that your thoughts give rise to your emotions, which in turn
greatly affect your well-being. Visualizing positive images
regarding your health and your life can improve your ability
to handle stress and even make you feel better physically.
Just as thinking about a warm apple pie can cause you to
salivate and feel hungry, imagining yourself in a safe place
can slow down your breathing and heart rate and make you feel
calmer. The more alive the details of your images are --
colors, textures, sounds, smells, tastes -- the more
powerfully they work. The technique is most useful for
treating conditions that are caused or aggravated by stress,.
Athletes and actors frequently use guided visualization to
improve their performance. Guided Imagery is a way of
communicating with your subconscious mind and of integrating
the right and left hemisphere of your brain.. The image you
see will always be different from what others see because it
is formed from your own personal experiences, which includes
your memories and feelings. Guided Imagery provides us a way
to connect with our subconscious mind to help control and heal
our body physically as well as psychologically.
3. Why do I
need to Use headphones?
There is a sophisticated technology embedded in the CD’s
that can be delivered only through the use of stereo
headphones. Among other elements these CD’s contain binaural
beat technology, and sounds from nature that induce relaxation
and enhance states of consciousness. The combination promotes
healing effects on the body by introducing sympathetic
frequencies of desired brain wave activity. The binaural beats
work by introducing a frequency in one ear that differs from
the frequency in the other ear. The difference in frequencies
chosen for these audio programs falls within the range of
alpha brain wave frequencies, which are between 8-12 hertz, or
cycles per second. The brain detects the difference in the
frequencies and then resonates to it, producing sympathetic
vibrations. This is what is known as entrainment To receive

4. What if I
fall asleep?
There is a period of time before you fall asleep when you

7. How can I

9. Is Guided
Imagery a new Technique?
No, Imagery has been around for hundreds of years and has
been known by many names. It has been part of healing rituals
since before biblical times. Imagery has recently received a
revival as an acceptable mind body technique to enhance health
and wellness, as well as to prepare for surgery, cope with
pain and illness as well as enhance peak performance and
optimal functioning.
10. Does it
matter if my eyes are open during listening?
If you want to keep your eyes open, it is fine however
alpha brain waves are naturally produced when the eyes are
closed and it is easier to experience deeper relaxation,
especially in the beginning of your practice of listening.
11. Do I have
to do something special to make this work?
If you choose the same time to listen, and allow yourself
to be protective of that time, to make it a priority to just
relax and let go of your worries, you will have a greater
chance of maintaining the practice of daily listening. We are
taught in this culture to strive and use conscious effort. To
maximize your success, the best attitude to have is to simply
allow the natural process of relaxation to unfold. When
listening to the CD’s, it is best to “feel”, kinesthetically,
with your body’s intelligence and let your mind turn off it’s
chatter.
12. Is this
hypnosis?
Hypnosis is similar to imagery as it includes imagery.
Imagery implies the use of your senses - feeling,
visualization, inner listening to create an inner image and
feeling. Hypnosis typically involves the use of a verbal
suggestion for a specific desired outcome, such as an athlete
visualizing himself winning a race, shooting a basket, hitting
a ball, or a performer imagining a successful performance with
the added goal oriented suggestion of feeling confident and
relaxed.
13. When
should I listen?
We recommend listening either first thing in the morning
or at night before sleep. It is important that you choose a
good time for you where you will not be disturbed. I know many
people who choose to listen during the lunch hour and return
to work refreshed, energized and relaxed.
14. I hear
parts of words whispered when listening to the CD's, should I
try to understand what is being whispered?
You do not need to "listen" or understand what is whispered,
this technique is used to serve multiple purposes - The 1st is
to distract the conscious mind so it can go on a "vacation",
2nd- the whispers serve to reinforce the positive
affirmations, 3rd- the use of sound technology to move the
sound of my voice from the right ear to the left activates
both hemispheres of your brain to strengthen the positive
effect of the entire process.
15. Are there
subliminal communications going on that I can not consciously
recognize?
It is NOT subliminal because you can still hear it if you are
paying close attention. The CD's are most effective when using
stereo headphones. I recommend that you simply "Allow" the
whispers to be present without "trying" to listen or "trying"
to pay attention. Allow your body mind to enter a deep state
of relaxation.
16. Sometimes
I get really relaxed to the point where I lose track of what
you are saying; is that ok?
Good. That is a sign you are going into an alpha brain wave
state, and the suggestions can then be received by your
subconscious mind.
17. Should I
be concerned about understanding every word that is spoken?
It is truly better if you "let go" of conscious awareness
and let the words be absorbed by your subconscious mind. Once
your curiosity is satisfied about what I am saying, (in case
you are curious) it is best if you let yourself go into a deep
state of relaxation.
18. If I play
the "journey" part of the CD in the background in a continual
loop while I am doing other things around the house, can I get
anything from it?
Because my words are carefully chosen to be therapeutic and
supportive of your successful outcome, it can only benefit you
the more you listen. Remember that the most effective results
occur if you listen with stereo headphones and allow yourself
to enter a deep state of body-mind relaxation.
19. Do I
always have to do the relaxation exercise before listening?
You do not have to experience the relaxation part, however
it does facilitate a deep state of relaxation where your
subconscious mind becomes available to hear the suggestions
and receptive to change.
20. Can I get
anything from playing the CD's in a loop while I am sleeping
at night?
If during your sleep, or before your sleep, you "hear" the
words and suggestions, then it can benefit you, as that is the
"alpha" state. When we are in deep sleep it has not
demonstrated that results are effective as when we are in
other states of consciousness.
